The Bay Area Council Economic Institute, EIT Digital, and the Association of European Chambers of Commerce and Business Associations invite you to the release of the Economic  Institute’s new report, “Innovation Bridge: Technology, Startups, and Europe’s Connection to Silicon Valley”.

Europe is a major economic presence in the Bay Area, through trade, investment, and people. More than any other area of the world, it enjoys strong ties to the region through technology and innovation, and in particular through startups.  This report documents the startup bridge that connects the two regions.

The report, developed with support from the European Union and regional and international partners, analyzes the dynamic process that each year draws hundreds of European startups and early stage companies to the Bay Area. Topics include: what does the startup map of Europe looks like, what is the environment in Europe for starting and growing technology companies, what are the push and pull factors that lead so many startup companies to the Bay Area, when they come how are they supported, if successful how and where to they grow, and what can be done to help more of them succeed?

The forum will include a summary of the report’s findings and a discussion by a panel of experts.

Hosted by British-American Business Council

Following the EU referendum in the UK, businesses are assessing what impact the triggering of Article 50 could have on their operations and relationships in the UK. With the impact of the recent US Presidential election, Brexit negotiations and elections across the European Union (EU) still to come, it’s becoming clearer as the ‘fog’ of Brexit lifts that significant opportunities exist to reinforce the US-UK trading relationship and reset the UK’s position as a leader of free trade and responsible globalization.

While the UK economy weathered the initial shock of the Referendum, opinions are sharply divided over the long-term effects of leaving the EU.

Please join us alongside HM Consul General San Francisco, Andrew Whittaker, on Wednesday, April 19th to hear how the UK government intends to navigate Britain’s exit from the EU.

ULI San Francisco is a proud sponsor of UC Berkeley’s forthcoming Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) study, “Jumpstarting the Market for Accessory Dwelling Units: Lessons Learned from Portland, Seattle and Vancouver”. This study examines the impact of various policy reforms and programs on expanding the production of accessory dwelling units. Using three case study sites – Seattle, WA, Portland, OR and Vancouver BC – will examine why some reforms have spurred more ADU construction than others, and identify best practices for other regions seeking to increase this type of housing development in their communities.

Following the presentation of UC Berkeley Case Study, a response panel will focus on cutting edge aspects of implementing ADU construction in the Bay Area.  The state and local leaders of the ADU movement will share insights on topics including:

  • How new state laws will further reduce barriers.
  • How local governments are making changes to facilitate ADU approval processing.
  • Lessons learned implementing ADUs in multi-family unit buildings.
  • How single family home owners are individually adding to expanded capacity throughout the Bay Area.
  • The potential ADUs have for expanding capacity to address housing affordability to relieve pressure on market rate developers.
  • How ADU construction is being financed.
